Create your own naturalist journal and fill it with your observations in this two part workshop on April 26 and May 10, 2025, 10am-12noon
Workshops are limited to 15 participants (a parent/child pair will count as 1 registration) and registration will be available in April. It is recommended for adults, and children age 8 and older accompanied by an adult. Call the library (802) 257-4603 or email staff@guilfordfreelibraryvt.org to register.
From ship logs to explorers’ notebooks to garden diaries, field journals have a long and inspiring history. They hold worlds and tell us about the people who filled their pages, what they did, and where they went, whether far away or around their backyard.
In the first 2-hour workshop, Linda Lembke will teach the basics of bookmaking and guide participants in creating their own field journal with a pocket for small treasures and foldout pages to expand the reach of the book. All materials will be provided and each participant will take home a journal, ready for recording observations of their own choosing.
In the second 2-hour workshop, Carol Hendrickson will share ideas about what you might do with your field journals, including the work that she and others have done to fill pages with observations and personal memories. Participants will make a second small field journal and use that to create a record of their observations and thoughts while traveling around the Broad Brook Community Center that morning. We’ll share our work at the end.

Library Camp - Color Our Village
Grades 3–6
Leader: Emma Hallowell
July 14-18, 2025
9am–12:30pm
The main focus revolves around stories, curiosity, contemplation and exploring in the Weeks Memorial Forest. We will craft and build fairy houses and do long hikes IN the Broad Brook Creek! Truly an epic moment which is shared by all. Last year we discovered a clay deposit and had a great time making sculptures. So much to see when we look around. There are always surprises and there is always nature at helm.

Fall Prevention Tai Chi
This class introduces the Tai Chi for Fall Prevention sequence starting from the very beginning. Regularly practicing the slow, rhythmic movements of Tai Chi smooths out stiff joints, improves balance, and promotes a sense of well-being. The class specifically improves balance and confidence in movement in a safe, easy-to-master program that one can do even seated, if necessary. This program benefits anyone from age 50 upward interested in maintaining their vitality.
Instructor, Leah Gessner, is certified by Tai Chi Vermont, a non-profit organization that promotes the Falls Prevention Tai Chi program and trains instructors throughout the state. Guilford Cares does not charge for these classes. (Of course, Guilford Cares always welcomes donations.)
You only need some comfortable loose clothing and a yen for adventure. You will find yourself in the company of welcoming neighbors enjoying oiling up their joints, rejuvenating muscle tone, and laughing some in the process.
Call Guilford Cares if you have questions, their number is (802) 579-1350

Library Camp - LARPing
Grades 4–7
Leader: Eli Welch
July 28 - August 1, 2025
9am–1:00pm
An immersive and inspired workshop based program with a focus on PROCESS. We’ve kept journals, created storyboards, scripts, sets, incidental sounds… of course we’ve developed characters, scenes, monologues, mini-plays along with many many theater games and exercises. This usually blossoms into a performance if the kids are into it at the end of camp. If the “show” happens it’s a fun window into the worlds they’ve created during this week.

Community Essentrics Class
Join certified Essentrics Instructor Kelly DiIonno for a rejuvenating six-week Essentrics class and give your body the gift of movement. Whether you’re looking to stretch tight muscles, boost your energy, or simply unwind, this class will help you feel restored and ready to take on the weekend.
